    APPEARANCES

For the Appellant NO APPEARANCE OR
    REPRESENTATION
    BY OR ON BEHALF OF
    THE APPELLANT

MR JUSTICE CHARLES: The parties to this appeal are a Mrs Conway and the City of London. The appeal is against a decision of an Employment Tribunal sent to the parties on 21 July 1999.

  1. Mrs Conway did not appear today, although there was a representative of the City of London here to observe. That representative, as we understand it, has assisted the staff of this Tribunal to whom we are very grateful and who have made considerable efforts to try and contact Mrs Conway during the course of the morning. The result of those efforts is that contact has been made with a Mr Glazier who represented Mrs Conway before the Employment Tribunal, who has sent us a fax requesting an adjournment of this preliminary hearing.
  2. We have not investigated in detail what documents were sent to Mrs Conway, or to Mr Glazier, but we do feel it is appropriate in all the circumstances to grant that request for an adjournment of this preliminary hearing and we will direct that it comes on for preliminary hearing on 28 January, when we know that this Tribunal is sitting together again.
  3. So what we will do is adjourn this preliminary hearing with a direction that it be re-listed as a preliminary hearing before the three of us on 28 January 2000.
