The Secretary of State, in exercise of powers conferred by subsection (1A) of section 37 of the Coal Industry Nationalisation Act 1946, (as inserted by section 12(1) of the Coal Industry Act 1977 and section 63(1) of that Act and now vested in him(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following regulations:-
1. These regulations may be cited as the Coal Industry Nationalisation (Superannuation) (Amendment) Regulations 1977 and shall come into operation on 30th September 1977.
2. The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of these regulations as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
3. The Coal Industry Nationalisation (Superannuation) Regulations 1950 (2) as amended(3), shall be further amended as follows-
(1) At the end of Regulation 1 there shall be inserted the following paragraph-
"(4) The Board shall have the like power as in paragraph (1) of this regulation for the purpose of providing for pensions, gratuities and other like benefits in favour of any person who has been in the employment of a subsidiary of the Board or in favour of other persons by reference to the employment of any such person.".
(2) In Regulation 9(1), after the definition of "revelant date", there shall be inserted the following definition-

These Regulations amend the Coal Industry Nationalisation (Superannuation) Regulations 1950 so as to enable the National Coal Board to pay or provide for the payment of pensions, gratuities and other like benefits in favour of any person who has been in the employment of a subsidiary of the Board, or in favour of other persons (such as the dependants of such a person) by reference to the employment of any such person.
