In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 35 of the Police Act 1964, and after furnishing a draft of the Regulations to the Police Advisory Board for England and Wales and taking into consideration the representations made by the said Board in accordance with section 46(3) thereof(1), I hereby make the following Regulations:-

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police Cadets (Amendment) Regulations 1985, and shall come into operation on 1st March 1985.

2. In paragraph (5) of Regulation 5 of the Police Cadets Regulations 1979(2) (which requires the chief officer to afford to a police cadet a personal interview with a senior officer before his services can be terminated) for the words "the deputy chief constable" there shall be substituted the words "a deputy chief constable".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

These Regulations amend the Police Cadets Regulations 1979, with effect from 1st March 1985. The amendment made by Regulation 2 to Regulation 5(5) of those Regulations (which requires a chief officer to afford to a police cadet an opportunity of a personal interview with a senior officer before his services can be terminated) is consequential upon the abolition of the office of deputy chief constable, as from 1st March 1985, by section 108 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, and its replacement by the rank of deputy chief constable (which, by virtue of that section, may in certain circumstances be held by more than one person in a police force).

Section 46(3), as amended by s. 4(6) of the Police Act 1969 (c. 63), was amended by s. 2(4) of the Police Negotiating Board Act 1980 (c. 10).
