Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings the Video Recordings Act 1984 into force in Scotland, in so far as the Act is not already in force, on 1st September 1988. The Act is similarly brought into force on that date in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by the Video Recordings Act 1984 (Commencement No. 7) Order 1988 (S.I. 1988/1018). At the date of this Order, the Criminal Justice Bill, which inserts a new section, section 16A, in the Video Recordings Act 1984 to provide for the enforcement of that Act by officers of a Weights and Measures Authority and in Northern Ireland by officers of the Department of Economic Development, had not received Royal Assent.
