Michael B Forsyth
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Scottish Office

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order abolishes Joint Ophthalmic Committees which were formed to exercise on behalf of groups of Scottish Health Boards certain functions relating to the provision by such Boards of general ophthalmic services under the National Health Service. The functions of those Committees (which relate to the maintenance of ophthalmic lists, and the investigation of complaints against opticians and of excessive prescribing of optical applicances) will consequently revert to individual Health Boards on 1st June 1988.
