PROBATION

The Probation (Amendment) Rules 1989

In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by paragraph 18 of Schedule 3 to the Powers of Criminal Courts Act 1973(1), I hereby make the following Rules:

1. These Rules may be cited as the Probation (Amendment) Rules 1989 and shall come into force on 1st April 1989.

2. Rule 44 of the Probation Rules 1984(2) shall be amended by inserting after paragraph (4) the following paragraph-�

"(5) Nothwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this rule, a probation committee shall not, on or after 1st April 1989, incur expense in the provision, maintenance, development or replacement of any computer or any associated apparatus or material except as authorised by the Secretary of State.".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Rules)

These Rules amend the Probation Rules 1984. They add provision to regulate the expenses which may be incurred by probation committees on computer equipment by requiring the authority of the Secretary of State therefor.
