The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 47(4) of the Solicitors Act 1974(1) hereby makes the following order:-

1. This Order may be cited as the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (Increase in Penalty) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 1st June 1990.

2. In section 47(2)(c) of the Solicitors Act 1974(2) for the figure "£3,000" there shall be substituted the figure "£5,000".

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This order amends section 47(2)(c) of the Solicitors Act 1974 by increasing the maximum penalty which the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal may order a solicitor to pay from £3,000 to £5,000.
