EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations, which extend to England, amend the Cattle (Identification of Older Animals) Regulations 2000 (S.I. 2000/2976) as they concern the period within which a keeper must give notification to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the movement of cattle.

The effect of the amendment made by the Regulations is to reduce the period within which notification of movements of cattle must be posted or made by electronic means to the Minister from seven to three days (regulation 2). This is in accordance with the requirements of the second indent of Article 7.1 of Regulation (EC) No. 1760/2000 establishing a system for the identification and registration of bovine animals (OJ L204, 11.8.2000, p.1).

A regulatory impact assessment has not been prepared for these Regulations.
