The Education Act 1996 (Amendment of Section 19) (England) Regulations 2007

  Made 22nd May 2007 
  Laid before Parliament 30th May 2007 
  Coming into force 2nd July 2007 

The Secretary of State for Education and Skills makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 144 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998[1]:

Citation, commencement, and application
     1. These Regulations may be cited as The Education Act 1996 (Amendment of Section 19) (England) Regulations 2007 and come into force on 2nd July 2007.

Amendment of Section 19 of the Education Act 1996
    
2. —(1) Section 19 of the Education Act 1996[2] is amended as follows.

    (2) After subsection (2) insert—

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations, which come into force on 2nd July 2007, amend section 19 of the Education Act 1996 in relation to England only. They update the definition of a pupil referral unit, consequent on changes to the categorisation of maintained schools introduced by section 20 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
