The Education (Teachers' Qualifications and Health Standards) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2001

  Made 4th April 2001 
  Laid before Parliament 5th April 2001 
  Coming into force 26th April 2001 

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 218(1)(a), (2), and 232(5) of the Education Reform Act 1988[1] and having consulted the General Teaching Council for England in accordance with section 218(2AA) of that Act, the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Regulations:

     1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Teachers' Qualifications and Health Standards) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 26th April 2001.

    
2. The Education (Teachers' Qualifications and Health Standards) (England) Regulations 1999[2] shall be amended as follows:

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations amend the Education (Teachers' Qualifications and Health Standards) (England) Regulations 1999 (S.I. 1999/2166).

Paragraph 4 of Schedule 2 is amended to increase the period for which overseas trained teachers may be employed as temporary teachers from two years to four years and the restriction on the length of time at a particular school has been removed.

Paragraph 7 of Schedule 2 is amended to remove the requirement to complete a minimum training period or period of service for overseas trained teachers who are seeking to achieve qualified teacher status through the graduate teacher programme who are assessed as meeting the specified standards for the award.
