SPORTS GROUNDS AND SPORTING EVENTS

The Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 2001

  Made 2nd July 2001 
  Laid before Parliament 2nd July 2001 
  Coming into force 23rd July 2001 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by sections 1(1) and 18(2) of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975[1], after such consultation as is mentioned in section 18(4) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement
     1. This Order may be cited as the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 23rd July 2001.

Designation
    
2. The sports ground specified in Schedule 1 to this Order (being a sports ground which in the opinion of the Secretary of State has accommodation for more than 10,000 spectators) is hereby designated as a sports ground requiring a safety certificate under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.

    
3. The sports grounds specified in Schedule 2 to this Order (being sports grounds in England at which association football matches are played, which are occupied by clubs which are members of the Football League Limited or the Football Association Premier League Limited, and which in the opinion of the Secretary of State have accommodation for more than 5,000 spectators) are hereby designated as sports grounds requiring safety certificates under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975[2].

Amendment to the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1986
     4. In Schedule 1 to the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1986[3], the entry in respect of the Borough Sports Ground, Sutton shall be omitted.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


Articles 2 and 3 of this Order designate the sports grounds specified in Schedules 1 and 2 as sports grounds requiring a safety certificate under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.

Article 4 of this Order varies the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1986 by omitting the entry which is no longer a sports ground requiring a safety certificate under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.
